Why do the nails and hair grow for a few more days even after the death of a person?

they dont, the persons skin shrinks so hair from below the skin gets pushed out.Why do the nails and hair grow for a few more days even after the death of a person?
They don't because all the water in the body is goin we get the impression that they r growing infact it is jst the dehydration effectWhy do the nails and hair grow for a few more days even after the death of a person?
they actually dont after death the body loses fluid and shrinks so they just appear longer but arent
Yeah, this is a common myth, but the hair and nails of a person do not actually continue to grow. The skin begins pull back several days after death and reveals slighlty more cm of nails and hair, hence the ilusion of growth.
They do ot continue to grow after death. As the skin shrinks due to no blood flow (because no heart is pumping) and shriivels. It causes the illusion that the hair and nails are longer but in reality they are not.
This is a commonly held belief, but it is not true. After death the body tissues dehydrate, so the skin pulls back from the hair and nails, making them appear longer.
They don't. The skin does shrink, though, which makes the hair %26amp; nail appear to grow.
They do not.

The skin shrinks as it dehydrates and it looks as though they have grown.
the heart stops but the cells still reproducing!
They are not still growing - the person's skin shrinks which gives the appearance of lengthening hair and nails.
Just wanted to comment that I was surprised at the number of people who know the correct answer to this, I would have thought, obscure fact. It speaks volumes about the innate intelligence of the respondents.

Or that you are all a bunch of weirdos fascinated with dead bodies.
yep truth....skin shrinks....and the man with the beard said it on CSI the other night so it must be true
They don't- urban legend. Actually, the flesh shrinks so it may appear to grow.
sorry to be so dumb but i didn't know that they did
This is a rumor that has lasted more than a century. The nails and hair don't grow after a person has died. Instead, the skin tightens up, pulling closely against a person's corpse, making thus appear as though the hair, nails, and even chest has grown. The skin tightens up from the effects of embalming, which is where most blood, but not all is extracted from the body and a preservative is placed into the body. This chemical known as formaldehyde is used to keep all bodily gases, organs, and other structures of the internal human system perserved just a little longer, most of the time between three to five months.
Its nonsense, its just that the person shrinks making the hair and nails seem slightly longer.
