Does Your Hair And Nails Still Grow When You Are Dead?

My Mates Stupid And Thinks They Do, Please Prove Her Wrong =] And A Reason Why Would Be Good :PDoes Your Hair And Nails Still Grow When You Are Dead?
Nope.

When your dead, the skin pulls closer, due to dehydration making it look like the growth of hair and nails.Does Your Hair And Nails Still Grow When You Are Dead?
No. I'm not going to say your friend is stupid, but she IS misinformed. As someone else has already said, when you die, your body dehydrates. This causes the skin and organs to ';shrink'; in size (remember, the body is 70% water), but not the hair and nails. This gives the appearance of growth, but it's really the skin being pulled back. The reason the hair and nails don't shrink while the rest of the body does is simple: the hair and nails are already dead. The only part of hair that is alive is the follicle, and when THAT dies, you go bald over time as your hair falls out. :D

So, to answer your question, NO, they do not grow when you are dead. There are no living cells to carry out this function, anyway!
Sorry to disappoint anybody, but hair and fingernails don't grow after death. Instead, our bodies dehydrate and our skin shrinks and tightens, pulling away from the hair and nails, creating the illusion of growth. Interestingly, funeral parlours put moisturizer on corpses to help reduce this effect.
when your dead everything in your body is dead and since your hair grows do to protein and oil glans, your hair cant grow without them and when your dead they stop producing oil glans and you dont take in any more portein as for your nails they sometimes do continue to grow but not much and as your body starts to detirorate your nails will too
No, not exactly. But the answer is really gross. The skin around the hair and nails sort of recedes, which lets more of the nails or hair be exposed and gives the appearance that the hair or nails grew longer. When really that hair/nail was already there just inside of the skin. Gross right? Ugh makes me sick.
No, they do NOT, but people think that because as your body starts decomposing your skin recedes, giving the illusion that the hair, nails, and teeth have grown.
no that's an old wives tale or myth the reason is that all the cells in your body die so none of your body parts can grow anymore
your skin and everything else decays, what an idiot.

you don't keep your hair and everything else when your dead!!

why do you think people are skeletons when they die/
No, the person that posted the snopes link has the explanation right there.
I heard that they do but maybe it's your body shrinking making it look like they do.
no everything in your body stops when you die so your hair and nails dont grow no more
No, your body shrinks so it looks like they are longer.

Yes, actually, your hair grows for 3 months after you die. I'm pretty sure your nails do too!
